Bookshop News and Weekly Round-up

Most weeks we produce a weekly list of selected newly published titles. January can be a relatively quiet time but this week, at the very end of January, has proved a bumper week for new titles.

You can sign up to to the weekly newsletter at Brendon Books by emailing brendonbooks@gmail.com and requesting to be on the list if you have not already done so, but I wanted to just mention a few of the titles below

Pullitzer prize winner Anne Tyler’s new novel is now available in paperback. Ali Smith has a brand new anti-ward novel and Rachel Joyce’s latest book, Homemade God is now available in paperback. We had our third event at our bookshop with Rachel for the launch in hardback and she and the book did not disappoint. January is also a rich time for crime novel offerings. There is a new twisty thriller from Freida McFadden author of The Housemaid, 10 Marchfield Place from Nicola Whyte voted a a top crime pick for 2025 by The Telegraph, from National Book Award Shortlisted Megha Majumdar we have A Guardian and a Thief, Kate Ellis’s brand new title Killing in ths shadows has a particularly fine cover, and the always entertaining Sophie Hannah brings us The Opposite of Murder. Sophie is due to come and visit us again this year. If you are listening, Sophie. we would be delighted to hear from you. It is a great privilege to meet the many fine authors who have graced our bookshop over the years.

It is also a rich time for non-fiction. Two of the titles are particulary relevenant to the current situation in wolrd affairs. Chokepoints by Edward Fishman tracks how economic warfare, such as the imposition of tariffs, is changing the world and there is the release of the paperback edition of The Nazi Mind,12 Warnings from History by Laurence Rees. On a lighter note, there is the paperback edition of the relationship between Beatles John and Paul and Marcus Zusack, the author of The Book Thief tells us about his relationship with his dogs.

There is much of interest and much to enjoy. Books can be ordered from Brendon Books in Bath Place, Taunton, by email at brendonbooks@gmail.com or by phoning 01823 337742 or direct to your home via our partners bookshopdotorg here or from your favourite supplier.
